How Much Do You Think The Acquisition Of Francisco Cordero Will Help The Cincinnati Reds Bullpen?

They now have a bonafide closer and can move David Weatheres back inot his setup role. Othere than that, what do you think will be the advantages of adding Cordero to the bullpen corps...? " Matt K ": Don't forget that they also have Jared Burton, who appears to be well on his way to becoming pretty darn good pitcher...

Answer:Honestly, I was disappointed at first to find out how much they spent. But in the last three weeks, I have grown to love this move. Does Cordero help the bullpen? Absolutely. I think this may have been the most important move they've made in over two or three years, maybe longer. Last year, our bullpen lost 31 games. That is atrocious. They also had an ERA over 5. Cordero has a career ERA around 3.20 and that includees pitching in hitting happy Arlington and Milwaukee. He immediately helps in that department. The bullpen also cost Harang a possible Cy Young award. I figure he lost at least 7 wins because of the bullpen and at least a half a run on his ERA. David Weatheres is a good pitcher, but he is not a closer and with this move he can go back to his natural position as a set up man or middle reliever. Part of the problem last year was that theree really wasn't a set closer until around the middle of the year. For some reason, when the bullpen doesn't know their roles, they fall apart. The eighth inning last year was the ? mark because it wasn't a question of would the pitcher pitching in the 8th inning go 1-2-3, it was how much of the lead would he give up. Now imagaine if Weatheres was theree to pitch or perhaps one or two othere guys that have great potential (Bray, Burton, Majewski, etc.) Even if Cordero pitches as well as Weatheres, the bullpen should be vastly improved. Also adding a veteran to a realtively young bullpen will help their development tremendously. Will it stabilize the bullpen?Yes. Will this move lead the team to more victories? In my honest opinion, yes. My biggest complaint was that they overpaid. If northing else, at least they overpaid in the area they needed the biggest help, and didn't sign someone for a log jammed position like outfeeld. That's certainly what Bowden would have done. Face it, Cordero has shown what the market is going to be for relievers for the next couple of years, similar to what Weaver, Suppan, Lilly, Marquis and othere pitchers last year did. Free Agents are not going to be cheap any more. Two years from now, this could look like a steal of a deal depending on what the market looks like. Cordero will, I repeat WILL help this team to at least 10 more wins than last year if and only if Harang and Arroyo continue to pitch like they have. Weatheres, Burton, and otheres will pitch much better than last year with some experience under their belt. If Bailey pitches well this year and Belisle shows consistency, with Cordero to save games, honestly this team should be able to win the division. It was the BULLPEN that cost us a title last year, northing else. Adding anorthere starter gets them closer to a World Series but in my opinion, adding Cordero puts at least one foot in the door as the NL Central champs.

What Do You Think Of The Cincinnati Reds Signing Francisco Cordero?

Answer:My first reaction is probably the same as many Reds fans - it's nice to see the Reds loosening the purse strings, and hopefully this is the first of several moves to be made. Cordero is a successful closer, and it will help the bullpen. David Weatheres filled in admirably, but the fact is that he's just not that good in the closing role. They can now use him and Jared Burton in setup roles, and take some pressure off the othere middle relievers. That's been a sore spot the past couple of seasons, and it would be good to get anorthere arm in that group. The Reds should still make a decision soon regarding Adam Dunn. Eithere trade him now while he has some serious value as a high-OBP, power hitting guy, or lock him up long-term. I know he'd be expensive, but he could hit a ton of homers at GAB if they kept him. He could be moved, though, for some much-needed young starters. Adding anorthere young guy in the rotation with Homer Bailey could give this team some hope for the future. The Cordero signing doesn't make the Reds contenders, but it's a nice first step and an encouragaing sign.

Would It Be A Good Trade: Francisco Cordero For Mariano Rivera?

I would love to have the greatest closer of all time on my team because I'm a diehard Yankees fan.

Answer:Yes. I would trade for Riviera. Three reasons. 1) He is one of the greatest relievers of all-time. He will draw from that experience this year. 2) His stats improved as the year went on last year. He is NOT fading, his WHIP during the second half returned to the normal 1.00 level with a bunch of saves. He appears to be healthy and raring to go! He still has a couple of quality years left in him... 3) Cordero is no shoo in this year himself, he faded a bit last year in the second half. Most importantly, you will enjoy your fantasy team that much more having a player you have admired for years without sacrificing anything to your team at all. GO for it! Good luck to ya!

Would You Trade Francisco Rodriguez For Francisco Cordero, Chris Perez, And Hunter Pence?

I am in a keeper league.

Answer:It depends what you think K-Rod will do this year. If you think he's gonna get 40+ saves then keep him but if you are depleted in the OF take the trade. If you think Perez and Cordero are reliable do it but I'm not so sure.

Should I Trade Joe Nathan For Jeremy Guthrie And Francisco Cordero?

Answer:No. Nathan is a quality - Top 8 Closer in baseball who will only improve if he gets traded to a playoff contender. Not worth Cordero and Guthrie by any means. Good luck to ya.
