How Much Will Getty Or Corbis Pay For My Illustration Rights?

If I sold a really awesome illustration to a big stock company like Corbis, Getty Images or the like, how much will they pay me for the rights? Once I sell the rights, can anyone who buys my work put their name on it as their own? That would suck.

Answer:I usually go straight to them and ask, they both have a contacts link on the websites. The main thing here is that it would remain your property until you sell the rights and then they can print and publish all over the place but they don't just do it like they, they may offer you royalty fees and the like. It all depends on what you work is going to be used for. I have been paid £200 per page and that was for a comic strip over 10 years ago, I have no idea how corbis or getty works. They look royalty free some of them.

How Do I Find Out If A Particular Getty Images Picture Is Registered With The Copyright Office?

I read on Yahoo Answers in a response to someone else's question that they should check to see if a picture is registered with the copyright office. My friend just received a letter from Getty Images on copyright infringement and it is really expensive to pay. (She thought she had taken them all down but she missed this one)

Answer:If your friend doesn't own it, it doesn't really matter who else does. She infringed someone's copyright. These "cease and desist" letters are really to get someone to stop using the image. If she doesn't want to pay for her use of the photo, she can write back that she doesn't admit doing anything wrong, but she will stop using the photo immediately. If she then stops using it, they probably will not do anything more to her. As for registration, it doesn't have to be registered to be copyrighted. It's not hers, she knows it, she needs to stop using it.

Answer:Yes it does. You can't use their pictures without express permission from them.

Are There Any Companies Similar To Getty Images?

I'm interested in someday working for a Visual Communications company like Getty Images. What are some of the other well-known companies similar to Getty Images? What kind of internship should I look for that would help prepare me to work for that company?

Answer:Corbis is the other big one besides Getty, Magnum is another one (smaller, more fine art type photos from what I remember) Also VII I think its called. Look up stock photography, or more likely "photo agency". I guess in terms of internship it depends on what you want to do exactly. Do you want to work selling the images, hiring/working with the photographers, editing the images, ? I think you'd need different type of internship/education to work in different departments-graphic arts/design for one, business or something for another, etc. Those companies do usually have internships, I'd recommend getting an internship with one of them. Also http://www.pacaoffice.org/ That is the American trade association for stock agencies. They have a member list- maybe there is a company in your area you could intern at?
