Where Can I Find Volunteer Options?

Hi, I'm an officer of a service club at my high school, and (obviously) I have to help find events for us to do. Are there any other options besides volunteermatch and guidestar? Thanks in advance!

Answer:You can check with your local chapter of American Red Cross for volunteer opportunities or they may have a youth program that you can get involved in. You might also try the local humane society where i'm from we went every sunday and just took the dogs for a walk as a service. Good luck to you! :)

How Do You Find The Salaries Of Employees At Non-profit Organizations?

I'm applying for a job where the salary is DOE so I wanted to find out what the other employees make so that I can get an idea of what to ask for. I know it's public knowledge but I can't find it. I've tried guidestar but am having trouble registering and looked at the 990 form and it doesn't separate out each employees wages. Any ideas?

Answer:www.salary.com type in the job title and the zip code of the job, and it will give you real ranges reported by the HR Departments Reporting database. They are usually current. Keep in mind the condition of the local job market in your area because if there are qualified candidates willing to take a slightly lower salary it could make them more attractive to employers right now. Good Luck

What Resources Do You Use, If Any, To Check Out Charities Before Giving Money To Them?

When you give money to a charity, do you check out how well they use your money to actually serve the charitable purpose that they state is the reason they exist? If so, what resource(s) do you use? For example, I've used the following resources with varying success to find and rate a charity within the United States: http://www.charitynavigator.org (I like this one) http://www.guidestar.org/ (Requires free registration) http://www.give.org (a Better Business Bureau site) In the United States, charities that have over $25,000 of revenue are required to submit a Form 990 about how they have used money, etc. The GuideStar site seems to have these (and you can get the form without paying anything).

Answer:I give to local groups I have worked with or know the volunteers in the organization, or I use http://www.charitynavigator.org to check out an organization I haven't heard of before...I give to groups like our local rescue mission or our local girls scout troop or our local habitat for humanity group... I don't like our local United Way (there's been a couple of scandals associated with their financial dealings), so I give directly to the groups I care about, so I'm sure they get all the money. Good question!
