Einleitung: Nachdem die Digitalisierung weite Bereiche der Filmproduktion erreicht hat, verändert sie nun zunehmend den Distributions- und Präsentationsbereich. Die DVD konkurriert mit der Videokassette, über digitale Filmprojektion wird intensiv diskutiert, und seit etwa zwei Jahren wird das Internet als Filmdistributions- und -präsentationsmöglichkeit kommerziell genutzt. Das intermediale Konzept, das "alte" Medium Film mit dem "neuen" Medium Internet zu verbinden, steht im Zentrum der vorliegenden Arbeit. In einer ersten Entwicklungsphase findet vor allem der Kurzfilm im Netz eine neue Plattform. Die Konvergenz der beiden Medien Film und Internet bringt auf der einen Seite eine Form der intermedialen Verschmelzung, wie Siegfried Zielinski sie unter dem Begriff "Audiovision", bereits für Kino, Fernsehen und Video gefasst hat, gleichzeitig führt sie zur weiteren Ausdifferenzierung des audiovisuellen Angebots, die sich in immer stärkerer Verspartung und Spezialisierung niederschlägt. Die Online-Präsentation von Kurzfilm ist auch in diesem Kontext zu sehen. Im Sinne der Definition von Intermedialität nach Yvonne Spielmann findet eine "strukturelle Vernetzung distinkter Medien" statt. Neben dieser Vernetzung ist eine Ausdifferenzierung bezüglich des inhaltlichen Angebots zu beobachten, denn mit dem Kurzfilm erreicht ein in den Massenmedien bisher wenig präsentiertes Filmformat sein Publikum. Neben dem Interesse am Kurzfilm hat die Euphorie, die das Internet auslöst, dazu beigetragen, das intermediale Konzept der Online-Kurzfilmpräsentation ins Zentrum dieser Arbeit zu rücken. Interessant erschienen sowohl die eigentliche Rezeption als auch die Strategien der Websites, die ein exotisches Filmformat in einem für diese Anwendung noch wenig erprobten Medium, dem Internet, anbieten.
