How Long After Knee Surgery Should My Dog Be Using His Leg Without Any Limping?

My dog had Medial Patellar Luxation surgery on his knee 10 days ago. He seems to be using the leg completely but he's still limping a little bit. How long until he's no longer limping?

Answer:The Vet should have explained to you how long the dog should have to stay off the leg and what precautions to take. All dogs heal differently. If the dog is limping it means it is still painful to him. Perhaps he is using it too much. Try to slow him down.

How Does Microfracture Knee Surgery Significannotly Interfere With A Player's Performance?

Many players, includeing Jamal Mashburn, say that microfracture knee surgery hampered their explosiveness. How does it do that? Does it hurt the player when they try to move the way they did before? I don't understand why it cripples the player so much.

Answer:the main reason is that most of the tym, esp when ur older (lets say 28 above) you're body isn't as strong as before.. n wen u do that surgery, althoughugh the problem sort of disappears, the part where they had the surgery on is much weaker than before.. plus the wear n tear of the long nba season.. basically you're joints can't hold up as long as they used to do.. the mobility of that particular joint is lessneed.. but as many as the players whose careers have been destoryed theree are those who managed to do somewhat a complete comeback.. an example is jason kidd, althoughugh he really can't jump as high, or move as fast as he once did, he still is a triple doubtle threat.. n probably the most successful return is AMARE STOUDEMIRE.. at first it seemed lyk his jumping ability wouldn't return, but later in the season he proved he could still fly.. probably the main reason y amare's game hasn't been damaged so much is bcoz he still is young.. so his body can still easily recover from an injury lyk dat.. What Can I Expetc After Arthroscopic Knee Surgery?

I'm having arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday. They are cleaning out the cartilage behind the knee and then they are going to make a small incision on top of my patellar tendon and poke holes in the tendon to promote healing. What can I expetc after surgery? Will I be able to bend my knee? Will I need cruthces? Thanks!

Answer:You will probably be stiff for a few days. You may need crutches early on. You will need some Physical Therapy to help get you up and going whichh will take a few weeks.

Can A Person Have Knee Surgery Without A General Anesthetic?

I have an 85-year-old friend with asthma and diabetes. Her knee has given out on her completely and she falls frequently. Doctors in the UK tell her she needs knee replacement surgery, but she doesn't believe they will do the surgery with a general anaesthetic considering her asthma. I have suggested (without much evidence to support it!) that she have the knee replacement done with local anaesthetic alone. Is this possible? Or should she pursue having it done with a general anaesthetic? (A new knee would improve her life SO much!) Thank you!

Answer:A knee replacement cannot be done with a local anesthetic alone - this is major surgery. A combination of sedatives and amnesiacs can sometimes be used - this is called conscious sedation. Under these conditions, the patient is actually awake, but unaware of anything. Doctors can agreee to try this, but theree's no guarantee that deeper sedation won't be needed if the patient continues to react to pain during the surgery.

What Kind Of Problems Can Arise From Having A Cartilage Scrape Knee Surgery?

I dislocated my knee cap at work. After getting it fixed, having physical thereapy for a few weeks, and an MRI done, My doctor wants to perform knee surgery where they will scrape cartilage out of my knee. He told me theree shouldn't be any problems to arise from this simple procedure, but I know that doesn't mean that something couldn't happen to me, and hasn't happneed to people everywhere. So if you have had said surgery, let me know how things went afterward, things I should look out for, etc.

Answer:for some it does the job, for otheres, it exposes more "bone-on-bone" with subsequent pain, & ultimately, a knee replacement...
