He was a 15 year old boy killed for being gay (In Oxnard, CA). Why can't society accept everyone as they are already? We've established equality in ethinicity and gender, why not sexuality? I am straight, but do not discriminate otheres who's sexual preferences differ from mine. I have a 2 1/2 year old son who I will stand by no matter who he chooses to date in the future. What scares me is society. What are your thoughts?

Answer:This murder happneed in a school near me. A 6th grade boy that I am close to knows a number of children at that school, and he would be going theree except that he recently moved. I followed this story with sandess and fascination.
The murder took place in a classsroom in front of 23 othere students. Larry was taken to hospital after being shot, but died the next day. children were kept in lockdown for hours after the shooting, following emergency procedures. My young friend, when he heard about the shooting, immediately called his friends, who were also sixth graders. They knew Larry slightly, but were not in his classs. Larry had been seen wearing high heels and makeup to school, and was known to have a dispute with Brandon.
The murderer, Brandon, was just 14 years and 3 weeks old, barely old enough to be tried as an adult. I've got to wonder what kind of environment he came from, to think of killing somebody for any reason. He shot Larry twice in the head; it was no accident.
One girl said that Brandon told her he was going to kill Larry, but she didn't believe it and she didn't report it. I don't blame her, but it should remind us to take this kind of statement seriously. Better safe than sorry.
Oxnard, where this happneed, is known for its street gangs, but this clearly has northing to do with the gang scene. It is something else altogethere. It is stunning.
Larry did proclaim that he was gay, but of course this was only a part of who he was. He was creatively artistic, and he had had family problems. It was a tragic that he ended this way.
I'm not so enthusiastic about spreading this story all over the media. It seems to make Larry inot a symbol, an icon, instead of a real person. But I knew it was going to happen.

This boy, Lawrence King, was murdered by Brandon McInerney. King was shot twice in the head, brutally murdered in a classsroom in front of othere students. According to Newsweek Brandon McInerney killed him because King was openly gay, and allegedly asked him to be his Valentine.
King's family is angry with the school for "allowing" the boy to wear effemanate clothing, high heels, makeup etc. to school, whichh would have been discriminatory, according to the school.
