Lawrence Of Arabia, Whats The Importance Of Damascus

May I know in the move Lawrence of Arabia, (not sure how many of you seen it), why their focus shifted from Arab to Damascus, after Sykes-Pico Agreement. What is in Damascus that got their attention? Was there a plot to take Jerusalem? But most importantly why? I love both your answers, both are best answers, I dont know how to choose. Im still not clear on Jerusalem's attention, what is it that steers the world's interest upon Jerusalem today.

Answer:He was to help the British & Arabs stop the Turks taking Damascus as the Ottoman Empire (Turks) had controlled the Palestine area for hundreds of years. The British & French wanted the area mainly as a strategic area in case of war,but also for the rich minerals and deposits that were in the region - Oil. The fight of the territory against the Turks was put across as a smoke screen for the masses but in reality it was seen as a financial gain for the allies in the region, mainly oil but also the Suez canal which was a route through the middle east that would cut time, costs to the Indian Ocean. They really needed to secure this place for safe ,transportable trading later on . Lawrence was to help the Arabs under the disguise of emancipating their lands from the Turks, but later realised that he was being used by the British as a pawn in the deal

How's The Lawrence Of Arabia Exhibit At The Imperial War Museum?

I've got a limited amount of time to explore London and wanted to get some opinions on the Lawrence of Arabia exhibit at the War Museum. Has anyone seen it yet and would you recommend it? Any other details / info is appreciated (best time to go to avoid crowds, etc)

Answer:I'm sorry but I'm going to disappoint you but the Lawrence of Arabia exhibition finished on April the 17th... Depending on your interest I would still recommend a visit to the museum..It is one of the best in London.. I would recommend the holocaust exhibition..and the war crimes.. There is currently an exhibition on the great escape..which should be interesting..I've giving details of all current events on their site for you (below) The museum is open daily from ..10am-6pm.. And the least crowded time to visit would be after 4pm.. Mornings and afternoons..get crowded with school trips..and in the summer exchange student.. I hope that helps :-)

Can Someone Tell Me What One Of The Themes That Was Portrayed In The Movie Lawrence Of Arabia?

I am having trouble finding a theme in the movie or even on the life of T.E. Lawrence. I'd greatly appreciate any input. Thanks!

Answer:There were a lot of themes in this great and long movie: destiny, loyalty, war, tribal antipathy. Corruptibility, homosexuality (just a bit of it very discreet). arrogance. pride, pomp. delusion. affection savagery leadership nationalities diplomacy All these are epic themes, i.e. themes for an epic like the Iliad. Try to find an example for each term in the film.

Why Do People Like The Movie Lawrence Of Arabia?

Lawrence of Arabia is best remembered for the Oscar-winning film about his life. But there is a different T.E. Lawrence,  a man who applied his unique experiences and extensive knowledge of the Arab world to a political vision for nation building in the Middle East that holds many lessons for today. Following the Arab Revolt, Lawrence embarked on a heroic effort, harnessing his celebrity to force the British to keep the promises made to their Arab allies. Alas, he was unable to stop the Western powers from carving up the Middle East at Versailles, thus laying the foundations for the ongoing instability in that region. Still, until the day he died, Lawrence continued to fight for Arab nationalism, famously saying: “Better to let them do it imperfectly than do it perfectly yourself, for it is their country, their war, and your time is short.” By weaving together a gripping narrative of Lawrence’s Middle East adventures and highlighting his surprisingly astute political thinking, John Hulsman teases out this and many other lessons to be learned from Lawrence about the Arab world.

Author: Malcolm Brown

The writings presented in this volume shed tremendous light, both on the character of T. E. Lawrence and the current situation in the Middle East. Despite being written more than seventy years ago, the thoughts of Lawrence of Arabia remain remarkably pertinent. This collection includes Lawrence's wartime reports from the desert, along with later writings in which Lawrence attempts to cope with the consequences of war in the circumstances of peace. Many of the pieces have previously only been issued in limited editions. T. E. Lawrence in War and Peace is an invaluable companion volume to Seven Pillars of Wisdom, which offers a self-portrait of its author long before he became an international celebrity. It gives us the man before the myth, writing fluently, vividly and with a total command of his subject. This edition has been compiled by the acclaimed writer Malcolm Brown, who is the co-author of A Touch of Genius: The Life of T. E. Lawrence and edited The Letters of T. E. Lawrence. The publication coincides with the 70th anniversary of Lawrence's death in May 1935 and an exhibition at the Imperial War Museum, which Brown curates.
