Answer:Arsenal did, indeed, go through the entire 2003/04 season unbeaten in the league, so I suppose that counts. (And, as a slight aside, in the same season that they achieved this the women's team also won their League and FA Cup competitions.) In actual fact, the first few weeks are largely irrelevant because of how the table gets sorted. Think about it - after the first day of the season you could have half a dozen or more teams all tied on 3 points. So then you sort by goal difference. Then by alphabetical order. Then by shoe size. Then by how many pets the manager's wife owns. It's all a bit pointless until you're several games into the season and things settle down a bit. Let's face it, at the moment (11.30pm here in NZ, so the Sunday games are just about to get started in the UK) there are four teams on six points, some teams have played three games while others have only played one, and we have Wigan Athletic at the top of the table!!! I defy anyone to tell me that the table as it currently stands bears any relevance whatsoever to the likely outcome of this season...... I believe Chelsea (not to be confused with any women's team, if you can help it) may also have bought their way to achieving a similar Premiership run. Maybe. Answer:I don't think there is a league table of referees but I'm sure the assessors have something similar to demote referees to lower leagues if they are not performing.
