How Did The League Of Nations And The US Address Global Aggression And What Factors Led To It?

What factors within the league of nations and the US shaped these policies?

Answer:They didn't address aggression at all until it was too late, and we therefore got WW2 and 60 million + deaths. The League of Nations was dominated by France and Britain, both desperate to avoid war.The scars and losses of 1914-18 were still in the mind of both government and people. Further, from 1930 both were in the grip of the Great Depression, and thought that the cost of standing up to aggression, which would mean rearmament, would further damage their economies .(Meanwhile,Germany was reviving its economy through government expenditure on rearmament). Finally, political strife in France meant the governments of the 1930s were weak, and therefore needed to avoid crises if they were to stay in office. As for USA, they had basically got annoyed when Wilson's 14 Points were largely ignored by the Treaty of Versailles. They therefore returned to isolationism after WW1, refusing both to ratify Versailles and join the League. So,they just ignored international aggression until after WW2 had begun, seeing it as nothing to do with them. They too were grappling with big domestic problems caused by the Great Depression.

How Did Canada Come To Be A Founding Member Of The League Of Nations?

I need to know how Canada came to be one of the founding members of the league of nations and what were the Government's first actions as founding members. Please and thank you.

Answer:As the League of Nations came out of the Treaty of Versailles, the nations who were on the winning side of the First World War became the first nations to join the organization; the exception was the United States, as the Senate refused to ratify the treaty. Germany was forbidden to join the League and the new Soviet Union was also excluded, as they made a separate peace with Germany in 1917. The same thing happened when the Allied nations signed the United Nations charter during the Second World War. Canada became a charter member of that organization also. However, only one person was a signatory of both the League of Nations and United Nations charters: Jan Smuts of South Africa.
