if I Live At Home With My Parents, Do I Have To Count Their Income When It Comes To Filing My Taxes?

I live at home with my daughter in a double house. My parents, brother, sister, me and my daughter live downstairs. My grandparents and uncle live upstairs. When I file taxes, am I supposed to say I live with my parents and will their income be factored in causing me to get less money back? Or should I just say that it's just me and my daughter?

Answer:You pay taxes based on the income that *you* earn, not on what your parents earn. If your parents are providing more than half of your support, they may be claiming you as a dependent. If that's the case, you can't take the personal exemption for yourself, so your total deduction would be slightly less. If they're paying more than half the support for your daughter, they may also be able to claim her as a dependent as well. If that's the case, you won't be able to claim her either. If your parents are supporting you, make sure you check with them before you fill out your own return. In *no* case would you *ever* include your parents' income on your tax returns. And the only time you'd ever need to mention them at all on your return is if you're claiming them because you're providing more than half their support. That may happen at some point in the future but it doesn't sound like the case now.

I have been living abroad for over 10 years and have never filed income taxes in that time. I don't owe anything, but I know I should have filed anyway, I was just too lazy to figure out how. Now I'm married and am expecting our first child in a few weeks. We're ready to move to the US but I'm worried about the tax thing. Will this be a major issue? Can I overcome this? Also, is it possible to live in one country but apply for immigration in another? We live in China, but my husband is from a small African country. It would be faster and easier to go through their embassy, but am I allowed to do that? My husband goes there often on business, but I legally reside in China. Can anyone give me real answers? Answer:I assume you are a US citizen. If you did not owe any tax then failure to file is not an offense and there is no penalty. If your non-liability for tax depends on claiming the foreign earned income exclusion, then you need to file back tax returns for six years (although the IRS is not excluded from demanding earlier returns or claiming tax for earlier years, it generally does not do so, nor does it usually want nonfilers to bother with earlier tax returns). In general the IRS is glad to cooperate in nonfilers regularizing their status. If you work in China for a US organization or a subsidiary of one, then your spouse may be eligible for "expedited naturalization" irrespective of never having lived in the USA. How To Make Windows Live Messenger Work?

I just installed the latest Windows Live messenger on my computer. I had been using windows messenger that was already installed for a few hours beforehand. When i try to sign into Windows Live messenger, it says that the "Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem, etc etc." I've uninstalled and reinstalled windows live. Is there a way to fix this?

Live is continuing to grow into their ambitions, as "Love Shines (A Song for My Daughters About God)" indicates, but they remain invigorated on their seventh studio recording. They deserve some credit for that as they've been at this rock thing for awhile now, forming in 1988 and releasing debut Mental Jewelry in 1991. Although there's nothing as epic here as 1994's fist-pumping anthem "I Alone," Songs from the Black Mountain still reaches for the skies--or at least the back row of the arena. Frequently taken to task for their idealism and "preachiness," the Pennsylvania quartet isn't likely to convert any non-believers this time around. Then again, the very qualities that some find precious and silly, like brow-crinkling seriousness, strike others as passionate and spiritual. Live aren't taking any risks on this outing, unless the pro-soldier "Home" is considered a risk, but nor are they phoning it in. Well, not exactly. As always, Ed Kowalczyk sings it like he means it, but his songwriting relies too heavily on clichés and the occasional space-filling "Ooo baby" ("the River") and "Oh, yeah" ("Where Do We Go from Here?"). Rather, Live has produced a solid, respectable effort, which neither advances nor jeopardizes their cause. Can you say "holding pattern"? --Kathleen C. Fennessy
