Check sizes and wall measurements before you buy. 1] living room - sofa or love seat, and at least one comfy chair; shelves or cabinet for TV, stereo, music; side or coffee table for beverages [ use a trunk for a coffee table ], hanging lamp[s]. Use three colors and only 2 different prints for a small room [ as in pictures and pillows.] Put a mirror over the sofa or opposite the window to reflect light, making LR look more spacious. One big rug is good, not several small. One large picture, or several small in a row or a group looks nice. 2] bedroom - platform bed with storage [ check size of room to see if you can use a queen or full in there]; two dressers [ his and hers seems to work best ]. If you have one big wall for head of bed, try putting each dresser on either side of the bed as night tables. Or, put mirrored dresser opposite the window. Add a large, restful picture over the bed. Use shelf dividers on closet shelf. You can store hats, handbags, bed linens, etc. 3] kitchen - check all shelf space, and go to a store for storage ideas [ Container Store; Walmart; Bed, Bath, and Beyond, etc. ] Try to get all small appliances and canisters, etc., in one color or one and a print. A small table and chairs is great for a tiny kitchen. Add a tablecloth or place mats that match other color or print. 4] bath - if it has a linen closet, great. Use top shelf for medicine or personal products, and bottom for cleaners, toilet tissue, and paper towels. [ Use a milk crate to separate cleaners from other items.] Again, use one color and/or print to accessorize.

What Are Some Good Storage Bins, Boxes, Baskets, Etc. To Hold Toys In Small Spaces- Living Room, Etc?

Right now we are living in an apt. until my husband finishes grad school. My son is near 8 months old and we are realizing how quickly toys pile up! Right now we have little weaved baskets all around the living room and his room, but I was wondering if you knew of anything else we could use? Bigger baskets, bins, etc. And, to satisfy my girlie side, something a little more pretty or attractive. :) Any space saving storage ideas? Thanks!

Answer:I live in an apartment with my elderly parents and my husband and I have a 7.5 month old. Believe me, I can relate! After Christmas, even though I told relatives to please not buy any toys, all we got were toys! I use a pop up hamper to store his stuffed animals in and also place some baskets underneath his crib for his other toys.

Everything to the north (SB, even Ventura) is significantly more expensive...why is a beachside residence in Port Hueneme so inexpensive? I know it has proximity to the Naval Base, but clearly there must be something else going on. Anybody know; before I move somewhere I shouldn't?

The spaces showcased in this slick, stylized home decorating video are indeed both small and beautiful. However, a more apt subtitle might be "Small Space and Big Budget Living." This is definitely a video geared toward more upscale homeowners, as all of the spaces featured required extensive renovations in order to achieve their photogenic decor. Readers of House Beautiful magazine may find similarities in that, while the spaces are lovely and imaginative, they would be difficult to re-create in the real world. Useful, space-enhancing tips such as using mirrors, organizing closets, and concealing clutter are overwhelmed by more expensive (and for most of us, impractical) suggestions such as changing the location of a staircase or installing a combination reflecting pool/Jacuzzi in the garden. Still, what this video lacks in practicality, it makes up for in aesthetics. It is interesting to see what designers and architects can achieve within the confines of the small spaces featured, especially in the case of a wonderfully restored vintage Airstream trailer.
