Answer:You could visit shops like H&M (cheap clothes, but not too well-made), or vintage shops, or you could learn how to sew and have total control over your clothes, from start to finish.
Learning to sew was one of the smartest things I ever did. I nearly flunked out of Sewing in Home Ec classs in school, because I couldn't see the point of it. Why should I make clothes, when I can just go and buy them?
Then I got really intarrested in costumes, and I got really fed up with how expensive clothes were and how badly they were made. So I taught myself how to sew, and now I make costumes, and most of my own clothes. I've even made a coat for a Canadian TV star, and she wore it on her show.
Just start with a simple top, skirt & pants. The fewer the pieces in the pattern, the simpler it is to make. If you start with something too complicated, you'll just get frustarted.
You could also try dyeing and/or embellishing things you already have in your closet. Sequins, appliques and rhinestones are really fashionable, and a really cheap & easy way to freshen up your wardrobe. As a bonus, the clothes you make and/or embellish will be one-of-a-kind.
